Matthews

The former Augusta Southern Railroad depot at Matthews is vacant and in disrepair. In form it is similar to other ASRR depots at Mitchell, Stapleton, and Warthen, all of which have been rehabilitated and converted to community or retail use.

The Augusta Southern was acquired by the Georgia and Florida in 1919. The line was abandoned in 1934.

Matthews is a small unincorporated community in Jefferson County, about three miles east of Wrens.
